A Rule Of Queens

I am reviewing the sword and sorcery novel A Rule Of Queens by Morgan Rice which is a very good book that I downloaded for free from kindle. This book is part of the Sorcerer’s Ring series and I think all Morgan’s books are available either free on kindle or free on kindle unlimited. I have certainly being trying to read all his books on these. This is also around 350 pages so is quite a decent length. It is set on a fictitious world where the sorcerer’s ring refers a series of islands and also a magic ring that belongs to Queen Gwen. In this book Thor who I think is Queen Gwen’s brother has to rescue his family from a volcano that has lava coming towards them by using his magic powers. He also meets the king of the undead and becomes possessed and ultimately will lead an invasion force on his behalf. Queen Gwen has replaced her mother as Queen who was a very unpopular monarch. Gwen is much more popular but there is an enemy army advancing to depose her. Darius uses his magic powers to rescue Loti and together they travel to the city but he hates using his magic and doesn’t want to admit to having that ability I think in case they kill him for being a wizard. Anyway he makes out they were prisoners of the Imperial Army and they were left in the forest to die but somehow found there way to the city. The inhabitants aren’t sure if they believe this or not as surely if the enemy wanted to kill these 2 surely they would just execute them. This is a series of 16 books with 15 already published. I am quite eager to read the whole series and the action in this book is a little bit slow with not much on the line of battles. In the series as a whole there is plenty of battles though. I think Morgan is a good writer. I did enjoy this book though and would definitely recommend it.
